Boundary conditions
plural noun
Are the mathematical expressions for the thermal conditions at the boundaries.
Example: The most common boundary conditions are the specified temperature, specified heat flux, convection, and radiation boundary conditions.

Emissivity
noun
Is the ratio of the radiant energy emitted by a surface to that emitted by a black body at the same temperature.
Example: The amount of light emitted at a particular temperature is determined by the emissivity of the surface.

Energy balance
noun
Is a consideration of the energy input, output, and consumption or generation in a process or stage.
Example: When determining an energy balance, you need to know what energy is being transferred in and out of the system.

Heat conduction equation
noun
Is the mathematical equation which describes the transfer of thermal energy between molecules.
Example: The heat conduction equation can be derived by performing an energy balance on a differential volume element.

Heat flux
noun
Is the rate of heat transfer per unit area.
Example: A boundary surface, in general, may involve specified heat flux, convection, and radiation at the same time.

Heat generation
noun
In heat transfer analysis, is the conversion of electrical, chemical, or nuclear energy into heat (or thermal) energy.
Example: The energy comes from a buffer storage tank that can be previously fed from a range of different heat generation systems.

Initial condition

In heat transfer analysis, is a mathematical expression for the temperature distribution of the medium initially.
Example: The simulator provides the downloading of the exercise, which describes the initial condition and approximate training scenario.

Insulation
noun
Is something which is put on or around a container, pipe, or vessel to prevent loss of heat.
Example: The insulation and jacket cover the tank walls and optimize the thermal heat efficiency of the tank.

Internal energy
noun
Represents the molecular energy of a system, and it consists of sensible, latent, chemical, and nuclear forms.
Example: The sensible and latent forms of internal energy can be transferred from one medium to another as a result of a temperature difference, and are referred to as heat or thermal energy.

Steady state
noun
In heat transfer, is when the temperature does not vary with time.
Example: The unit will transition back to the frozen steady state mode when the temperature rises back to the transition point.

Thermal conductivity
noun
Is the amount of heat per unit time per unit area that can be conducted through a plate of unit thickness of a given material, the faces of the plate differing by one unit of temperature.
Example: The thermal conductivity of the filler gas decreases in proportion to the size of the gas atoms (mass and diameter).

Thermal diffusivity
noun
Is the thermal conductivity divided by density and specific heat capacity at constant pressure. It measures the ability of a material to conduct thermal energy relative to its ability to store thermal energy.
Example: The key to a good phase shift depends on its thermal diffusivity (a) that is to say its ability to quickly transmit a temperature change.

Thermal symmetry
noun
Is a heat transfer problem that is symmetric about a plane, line, or point.
Example: The thermal symmetry boundary condition is a mathematical expression of this thermal symmetry.

Thickness
noun
The distance between opposite sides of something.
Example: The power of the cutting device needs to be adjusted according to the thickness of the substrate.

Transient state
